Greetings,
While we normally now implement kernel updates without needing to reboot the servers via splicing, we will have to reboot the servers this time in order to best implement security fixes for the Meltdown and Spectre exploits annouced last week. The patch set for splicing is rather large and complex and may not be stable for production use. Whereas the latest kernels are out and have been reported working without issue for people on production servers. Therefore, we feel this is the fastest and safest route to take to secure our servers from these types of attacks. We will begin rebooting our servers after 12AM CST Monday morning and will update this announcement as things progress.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about these updates and we'll be happy to assist you further.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we perform these necessary security steps for your service.
12:00 AM Update - We are starting the reboots now. We will let you know if we run into any problems or when the process is complete.
1:30 AM Update - We've ran into a problem with the kernel updates for our VPSes that use CloudLinux. We're working on resolving this now before proceeding with further kernel updates.
5:20 AM UPdate - We have completed the kernel updates. All servers should be up and running now, please let us know if this is not the case so we can get the issue resolved for you.
